Martin County
on the Florida Treasure Coast

Martin County on the Florida Treasure CoastFor people who enjoy golf, boating or fishing, appreciate an area with natural beauty and a casual lifestyle yet still want easy access to a major metropolitan market, then Martin County is a perfect choice. Visitors will find that Martin County offers relaxation and fun. The county has miles of clean, wide-open beaches and no crowds, beautiful parks, stores and restaurants of every description and accommodations to suit every need.

Nearby are numerous attractions from museums to cruises and theme parks. Local performing and visual arts groups are active and what is not offered locally is easily accessible via nearby highways.

For people thinking of locating in Martin County, a first impression conveyed by buildings that reach no more than four stories will make it apparent that the county's residents are protective of its natural beauty. The small-town atmosphere will also become evident by means of visits to the various towns and communities. Only four are incorporated: Stuart, Sewall's Point, Jupiter Island and the tiny Ocean Breeze Park. However, the unincorporated communities in the rest of the county's 556-square miles clearly have their own identities.

From in-town locations to home in golf course community to condominiums on the ocean or five-acre parcels in the country, the county has much to offer in the way of homes.

To be seen properly, the county should be viewed from water as well as from the air and land.  Natural beauty and the sense of community are what attract people to this area, says developer John Dodge, who has been monitoring people's choices since his arrival in the late 70s. Dodge envisaged and sculpted two communities from pristine acreage on the St. Lucie river banks: Piper's Landing in Palm City, and subsequently Harbor Ridge in St. Lucie County.

Peter Cummings, developer of Martin Downs, the largest planned community in Martin County, expressed some of the same when he once said that the planning philosophy of all of Martin Downs was to create a normal environment, a community with residents of various ages and income levels, a place where you can put down your roots.
